From departure to destination, when it comes to delivering the best air travel experience, the finalists of the 2015 Passenger Choice Awards reveal that passengers don’t necessarily favor lavishness over basic necessities.

While luxury Gulf carriers dominate the bulk of nominations, spurring Emirates and Qatar Airways to butt heads in six categories, Norwegian and Air Transat prove that flying low-cost doesn’t mean a lesser travel experience. Nor does being small, as SriLanakan Airlines swoops in for four nominations and Ethiopian Airlines, consecutive winner of Best in Region: Africa for the past two years, scores the most nominations with mentions in eight categories. Then again, who’s to say that Virgin America who has won the most PCAs, including Best Overall Passenger Experience for the past five years won’t repeat the feat and take the awards by storm again?
